About Tim
Dr. Tim Loonam is a former practice owner of Grace Animal Hospital, a multi-doctor practice located in Lexington, South Carolina where he still practices today. He is also a University Liason for Encore Vet Group. This is a dream dual role for Dr. Loonam because he still gets to be a veterinarian – his original passion - but he also gets to educate veterinary students nationwide, thereby shaping the future of this great profession.
Dr. Loonam earned his DVM from the University of Georgia where he received senior clinical awards. He then spent several years as a U.S. Army Veterinary Corps Officer including a tour of duty in Iraq where he received the Bronze Star Medal. After leaving the Army in 2005, he opened Grace Animal Hospital as a start-up business where they now have eight veterinarians, a team of 40+ employees, and more than 15,000 clients. He has served on local and state Veterinary Medical Associations and on the national level with the AVMA. He is also a member of the University of Georgia Alumni Board, and recipient of Georgia’s Distinguished Alumni Award.
Grace Animal Hospital, an AAHA- accredited practice, has been named Hospital of the Year more than 14 times in the Greater Columbia, SC, area. Dr. Loonam and his team regularly host veterinary student externs from around the country. Dr. Loonam is well-known for his genuine, personal, and entertaining speaking, mentoring, and teaching styles.
Fun Fact
Tim Loonam is featured in 3 books: Rule Number Two by Heidi Kraft, Farewell to Football by Steven Liparulo, and Sergeant Rex by Mike Dowling. He also appears in a documentary about military working dog teams called, Always Faithful.
